Dentistry is a part of what we know as health sciences, and its goal is to study, diagnose and treat the diseases that can affect the stomatognathic system, composed by teeth, periodontium, temporomandibular joint and neuromuscular system, as well as the rest of structures that conform the oral cavity, like the tongue, the palate, the oral mucosa, salivary glands, lips, tonsils and oropharynx.

Conservative odontology is the one that has for goal the restoration of destroyed dental tissues, either by caries, traumas or other causes. The techniques used are various and actually the materials are composites, which have replaced silver amalgam completely.
That part of odonthology that has as goal the study of the structure, the morphology, phisiology and pathology of the dental pulp (colloquially known as “nerve”) and of the perirradicular tissues (the ones surrounding the root).
Endodontics include differential diagnostic and orofacial pain treatment of pulp and periapical origin; treatments to maintain pulp vitality, treatment of radicular vessels, chirurgical treatments in order to eliminate inflamatory periapical tissues of pulpal pathology origin; as well as root amputation, apicoectomy and hemisection; treatment of the consecutive affectation of the pulp in trauma, reinsertion of avulsionated teeth, teeth whitening, retreatment of teeth having a prior failure of endodontic treatment and restoration of the dental crown by using bolts in the area formerly occupied by the pulp.
There is actually a wide variety of dental prostheses:
- Detachable prostheses: Those which the patient can remove, like “skeletal” or complete resin prostheses.
- Fixed prostheses: the ones that the patient cannot remove, like dental crowns or bridges.
- Prostheses over implants: those which use dental implants as a retention element, and they can be fixed or detachable.
It’s dedicated to the diagnostic and all the surgical treatment of dental, mouth, maxillary and surrounding tissues illness, anomalies and injuries.
Even if the mouth surgery ambit is wide, the treatments we perform are most frequently dental extractions.

The temporomandibular joint or links the temporal bone (in the skull) and the jaw. It’s located next to the ear duct and can present different pathologies, like focused or referred pain, osteoarthritis, displacement of the articular disc and mouth aperture limitations, among others.
